Tong Danian

• Tong Danian (1874-1955), courtesy name was Xing An, art name was Xing Han, Songjun Wuzi, born in Congming Shanghai, seal carving artist. He learned seal carving from an early age and studied under Zhao Mu. He studied Chinese character classification “Liu Shu”, and especially good at clerical script and seal script. There are a lot of works of seal carving throughout his life, including “Yigulu Zhuanhen” and “Tongzi Diaozhuan”. There are also unpublished ones such as “Wadang Yinpu”, “Wushuang Yinpu”, “Fugu Yinpu”, “Gurenmin Yinpu”, and “Xiaoxing Tuxiang Yincun”. In 1940, Xiling Yinshi published “Tongxin Kan Yincun” which is the eigth volume of “Modern Seal Carving”, it was the works of Tong Danian. At that time, he was just over the age of 30, he became famous and had a great influence.
