      Donggao Xunyue (1639-1694), courtesy name was Xin Yue, art name was Dong Gao, born in Pujiang Zhejiang. He was good at calligraphy, painting and seal carving, and was also talented at music. Since he came to Japan, he had great influence on Japanese culture. He founded the Shou Changyi School of the Caodong Zen Buddhism sect, and he socialized a wide range of Japanese monks. He transmitted the Guqin music (a plucked seven-string musical instrument) which had lost its tradition in Japan. He also learned Japanese, and transmitted Japanese poem Waka and Haiku to the world.
